The Story of Lucius Cane
By Vanya Ferreira
I am sure that many of you, like myself, find words to be a peculiar and fascinating thing. I suppose that’s why I became a writer; I simply love perusing the vaults of lexicon where words and worlds become intertwined. But… Let’s get to my first book, or rather, the first short volume of the series.
I had been working, admittedly on and off due to circumstances, on a full length psychological crime thriller when the idea for The Story of Lucius Cane came to me. For me, it was both a break from the, as of yet unnamed, full length novel but also as a way to get myself out there. I noticed that after Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” and E.L. James’ “50 Shades of Grey” that the market had become somewhat flooded with these two genres and some authors even attempted an amalgamation of sorts between the two. I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but rather, it was just a bit too much for my preference. I wanted to create something different while still incorporating some of the traditional forms of vampire and werewolf, as well as including stranger characters in upcoming stories, but also throwing a twist into genre that most people don’t expect.
My decision for the series to be a collection of short stories that flow into each other is simply because, let’s face it, as much fun as it is to read a full length novel we do live in an attention deficient world. I believed that smaller pieces of an entire work would be easier to read and would keep you guys, the readers, interested in what will come next. As a side note, the next piece is just as much a surprise for me as it will be for you. I don’t think that there is much that I can say about it without giving something away but I honestly hope that you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
